Cooler weather equals busy schedules filled with lots of plans—school, vacations, sports, even just enjoying the change in seasons. And nothing derails work or fun faster than a cold or flu. Help keep yourself and others healthy during cold and flu season with these tips:
1. Wash, wash, wash those hands. There’s no better way to stop the spread of colds, says the CDC, than hand washing. That’s because the germs go from your hands to mouth and eyes—especially problematic with kids. Scrub with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds (sing a round of “Happy Birthday” to time it), then dry with a Sparkle® paper towel.
2. Keep your germs to yourself. Spare innocent bystanders by resisting the urge to cover your mouth and nose with your hands when you sneeze. Instead, do so into the crook of your elbow, or into a disposable tissue.
3. Disinfect everything. Germs are resilient: They can survive on surfaces such as toys, door handles, and tables. If you’re going to survive this cold and flu season, spray the culprits with disinfecting wipes or sprays; wipe clean with a paper towel.
4. Go disposable. If someone in your house does get sick, consider using paper towels instead of a hand towel at the bathroom sink until everyone is better.
5. Steer clear. If someone you know is sick, encourage them to stay home—and limit interaction until they’re well. If you or a family member is sick, stay home or keep them at home to reduce the risk of exposure to others and help encourage quick healing, too.
6. Tend to yourself. Good sleep and eating well: They’re not guarantees against the cold and flu, but they might keep your immune system strong.
