How to Clean & Season A Cast Iron Skillet
You will need:
- A roll of Sparkle® paper towels
- A bottle of canola oil
- Your mama’s cast iron skillet
- A little elbow grease!
Start by cleaning out your cast iron skillet with mild soap and water. Then, use a few Sparkle® paper towels to get it completely dry.
Next, using a few more fresh and clean Sparkle® paper towels, cover your skillet with a generous amount of canola oil.
Make sure to get good coverage all over your cast iron skillet, from top to bottom.
While continuing to work in the oil, be sure to coat everything from the center and walls to the handle itself.
Now, wipe off all of the excess oil with a few more clean Sparkle® paper towels. Don’t worry, there’s still a thin coating on there, we promise!
Step 06
Finally, place your skillet in the oven and set it to 500°F for 1 hour. Don’t forget to put a sheet of foil or a baking pan on the rack below to keep things clean. After the hour is up, let the skillet cool completely. TIP: Repeat these same steps 2-3 more times for an impeccable coating!
